[For Midorima it's probably been a pretty nice, quiet week-- not that living next to Miu meant the opposite, since she's quiet anyhow. But it's a...different sort of quiet now. Distracted. If she catches Midorima in the hall or anything, she hardly speaks to him, usually only saying that she's got lessons and doesn't have time to talk. Also not entirely unusual except that the number of lessons and rehearsals and things she's been going to seems to have doubled and she comes home exhausted.
She's forgotten--or maybe just hasn't had time to--drop off food too, with or without the excuse of making too much.
So it might seem a bit strange when, after a little over a week of this strange behavior, she's knocking on his door sometime in the afternoon, looking uncharacteristically anxious.]
[ It isn't as if he hadn't noticed something was wrong. He'd actually been considering asking Akashi, or at least bringing it up to him, but he had the feeling that Akashi would already know. It likely wasn't his business. Still, Hinasaki was easily one of the kinder people to him so he was a little concerned.
Make that a solid concerned when she's knocking on his door looking like she's about to tell him the mob is after her. He furrows his brows slightly, not standing in the doorway for more than a few seconds before moving to let her in. ]
Ah-- [She looks a bit startled, like she hadn't actually expected him to answer, and then relieved] You're here. Oh. Good. [But she still hesitates, looking uncertain, before she takes the silent invitation to walk in, clasping her hands together tightly in front of her.]
Sorry, I just... My apartment's been too quiet, and I... [Distracted, again, her gaze wanders around the room to see what's changed since last she's been here.]
I wanted to see if you've been settling in well. [That's at least partially true.]
[ He can't fault her for thinking it's too quiet. He's been having the same feeling- even asked Akashi about music here to try to fill the strange ring of silence. Though he appreciated it back home, here it felt too long. He was used to noise from the time he left the house until the time he got home. That reason was people, and if it was the same for Hinasaki, he could understand why she might decide to come visit someone.
Why him, he's less sure of since he doesn't see himself as particularly friendly. But he closes the door behind her once she's in. ]
I'm fine. I've started a job at the clinic.
[ There are a few knicknacks around the house- more things that Midorima has collected. Kuroko is going to have to call him on hoarding soon or this apartment is going to start filling up with former and potential lucky items once he starts having more money to spend on them. ]
Sit down.
[ He's going to go make some tea and he guesses get that snack he bought for later out of the cabinet and pretend he just decided he didn't want it anymore. ]
[She takes a seat, eyeing the items curiously before turning a curious look to him.] The clinic? Do you have an interest in medicine? [or... nursing? Taking care of people??
She can’t really see Midorima with good bedside manner...
She taps her nails lightly against the table, anxious] Am I interrupting anything? I mean—you’re not busy, are you?
A medical doctor would be my back-up career choice.
[ In case something happens and he injures himself, right? You have to have back-up plans. Midorima is just the only person in the world who sees being a doctor as a back-up to professional basketball. ]
I haven't graduated high school, I'm going to be assisting as a clerk.
[ He also considered teaching piano, but given his demeanor and the fact that he doesn't actually have a piano here to teach it on, it didn't seem practical. ]
I'm fine. [ He brings the tea and snack bread over- it's just a sweet bread of some kind, nothing fancy. But it looked good. ] I bought this for myself but by the time I got home it didn't look appetizing. Take it or it's going in the trash.
[ Texting is pretty convenient in a situation like this, even though he's pretty sure that Midorima would be extremely happy to hear his voice this beautiful morning. ]
Midorima-kun, please remember to avoid the heat. Stay out of the sun and don't go out between 11am and 3pm. It's probably very dangerous for tall people like you.
[ This is clearly what you should do when your amulet is burning because the guardian is pissed off, yes. ]
[ Midorima, on the other hand, is not the type of person you want to speak to in text. Even if he likes you. He's possibly the rudest texter on the planet.
Especially when it's comments about sun and heat and he's having Sosyne alignment issues. ]
[ He has no idea why Minato decided they were friends. He's not really sure what to do with it. At least when Takao was being a pain, he has a reason (basketball) to stick around and insist on it. Minato is strange. ]
I can't remove something that feels like it's trying to burn a hole in my chest. How do you think?
[ Scared, though, and that's leading to him being even more frustrated than normal and it's showing. Telepathy is touchy in that even with text, somehow a tone can be clear when it comes to emotions.
Midorima is used to a world where pain is from sports injuries- ones that he takes tons of precautions not to get. He takes care of himself, he does everything he can to keep in good health. This feels like being punished for something he has no control over and can do nothing about. ]
[ This is stupid, Weiss tells herself, but she decides to do it, anyway. It sucks when somebody important to you has disappeared, but she at least knows she'll see Ruby again. All she has to do is go home. Ruby disappearing won't be a permanent thing, but if the friends who aren't from Remnant that she's made here disappear, then that'll just be upsetting.
Like what she told Jaune earlier, she'll try to make the most out of her time here. That means doing stupid things like checking up on people for the sake of checking up on them. And, okay, maybe she could use somebody to talk to. ]
Your horoscope is telling you to go to this place in half an hour. Don't be late unless you want to be unlucky for the rest of the day.
[ ?!?!?!?!?! A+ conversation starter. You're good at this, Weiss. She doesn't even accept any responses to her transmission. It's up to Midorima if he goes or not, but Weiss thinks she's done her part by reaching out.
(She does at least send the address and directions to a small and quaint cafe in the business district.) ]
[ Sometimes people call Midorima weird. It's moments like this, in which a girl he knows doesn't know his horoscope (his is actually pretty decent today, thank you very much) decides to tell him to go some place in a half hour while pretending it's his horoscope talking??
He doesn't think she really understands what a horoscope is. It's really because he has to correct this ludicrous idea she has about what a horoscope is that he decides to come at all.
(It's not, but that's what his excuse to himself is. In reality, he thinks it's weird enough that he's a little worried she actually needs something from him.)
When he arrives at the cafe, he scans it from behind his glasses for the culprit behind the... odd message he received. ]
[ There are some things Weiss wants to discuss first, which she tells herself is the more acceptable excuse for bringing him out here in the first place. Once she sees him (he's hard to miss, after all), she merely makes eye contact before looking back at the menu before her. He can take a seat now or continue to stand there. She's not going to verbally ask him to sit down. She already invited him to come here.
Once he's seated, or at the very least, close enough that he'll be able to hear her, she gets straight to the point (one of the points, anyway): ]
[ Oh, so that's what this is about. He sits down, pushing his glasses up behind his nose and looking to the side, as if he's disinterested. ]
There was no need.
[ There was- he definitely needs money, but it feels inappropriate to demand money of someone he considers friend enough to give a secret milkshake on milkshake day. ]
[ Of course he thought of Midorima the moment his eyes laid on a certain water bottle. This is going to remain a secret for a little while, but he got two of them, even though green is definitely Midorima's color. Well, they just didn't happen to have blue frogs, unfortunately. On the 25th, Midorima will find it in a bag left on his doorstep with a note attached:
You'll never be thirsty again. Happy holidays. M. ]
[ Money is hard, but Kuroko did his best for Christmas. Midorima is gifted a tin of cookies decorated with various lucky items he'd had throughout the year. The second is a bigger but joint gift: a commissioned shogi board.]
[ You know, just so he knows immediately who's contacted him. She doubts he's allowing some other people to call him by his first name when Kuroko, someone from home, still calls him Midorima-kun. ]
You'll be my date for the Flower Festival, won't you? [ She doubts she needs to ask, but... what if he's not feeling the festival!! ] I think this would be your first, wouldn't it?
[ It's a very simple answer. He doesn't want her to have any confusion about it. He actually likes cultural events and things like that, so he's not against checking it out. Flowers are nice anyway. He intends to have some tea underneath a flowering tree. Preferrably a cherry blossom, but he'll understand if it can't be done. He doesn't know the area it takes place in. ]
In Japan around this time of year, there are hundreds of cherry blossom trees that bloom and we have Hanami. People take their families out to view them, drink tea and eat snacks. I imagined it to be similar to that.
Great. Some people dress up all fancy, just like they do in Helisium, but Zephyras is spent outdoors and it's usually in the mountains, so wear something comfortable. There are all kinds of flowers, so I think you'll be able to find cherry blossom trees, too. They're usually pink, right? If I'm correct, then you'll definitely see a lot of them. Oh, but there are other things to look at, too. I know Diateris has been restored by the natives, so it doesn't look like a dead city anymore. You don't have to bring a mat or anything for eating snacks under the trees since there's a lot of areas for it. We can even go around and play games. There's a maze that you can enter and to get out, you have to use emotional effects with a partner. The last time I was there, I had to tell someone compliments to be able to find the exit. I don't normally say things like that, but it was fun. Then there's the Flower King and Queen—do you have soirees or dances where the organisers award a queen and a king? The festival is like that. I don't think they get a prize at all, but people seem to consider it a special title. Plus— [ She's not going to stop. ]
christens this. set like a week after kokichi disappears
