[ Midorima for his part is not likely to get involved much in any apps. If his phone stops working how he wants it to, he'll just leave it in the closet until he can find someone to fix it. but since they don't seem to know the actual cause of the disappearances, there's still cause for alarm-- and Midorima actually appreciates Eichi's diligence in some ways. Even if some of the stuff he gets sent is completely inane, it's more than obvious by the normal lack of picspam that there's a distinct purpose to it and even if there weren't, it means Midorima doesn't have to be obvious by being the one to check in, so he appreciates it and texts back to each item-- usually with a less than 3 word response of some kind, but for once he doesn't say anything outright mean. (If Eichi tried this on a normal day he'd get a very different response to such texting behaviors..)
Midorima himself is fine because it's going to take more than some creepy flowers to get him to moonlace with a ghost. That's some haunted stuff right there. Well, until he gets Eichi's text and he's suddenly rather less fine. There's no hospital emoji so at least it's not an emergency-emergency but it doesn't make it any less concerning. ]
Where are you?
[ He doesn't really ask what's going on. He's sure he'll find out or Eichi will tell him. If he doesn't get another response, his first point of search is Eichi's apartment. ]
[Unfortunately, there's no reply. The end of a vine hooks around his ankle as he's scrambling away and sends him dropping to the floor. His phone tumbles, a few letters typing from his fingers slipping over it without sending, and he's dragged back and lifted up. He remembers these vines, the flowers, the pollen he's breathing in now that's making it harder to fight back, but he doesn't ever remember them being quite so aggressive...
Anyway. He can't seem to do much but wait, like this.]
[ No reply is even more concerning, so Midorima heads directly to his apartment. He can only hope he isn't in some alley somewhere that he'll never find him. As he hurries over, he starts considering other places he might be. He may need to reach out to Hasumi or Aoba or.. anyone, really. He may need to make a public post, if he can't find him.
Despite his concerns, all kept internal behind a tight-lipped frown, he manages to make it to the DNA building and up to Eichi's room. He doesn't have a key, but he can see a vine creeping under the doorframe, warping the door with the force of stuffing itself inside the crevice. ]
Tenshouin! Are you in there?
[ He doesn't know why he's yelling, hoping for a response. He's going to have to bust open the door regardless if he can't unlock it for him. He looks at the staff in his hands, part of his costume, and aims it at the door handle. This is how they open the door in movies, isn't it? ]
[There's a dazed voice from inside the apartment, but Eichi pushes enough into it that it carries. He's here, and he sounds out of it. Vines have twisted through his bedroom, out into the hall, to the front door of the apartment itself. Where Midorima breaks in at the front, he'll find it gives way fairly easily, but there are vines curling and inching around the short bit of hall between the doorway and the bedroom, and the sudden freedom only makes them reach out an inch or two further.
Along the vines, there are beautiful red flowers— but Eichi must hear the door open, because he speaks from the other room:]
Don't breathe it in—!
[The pollen. It stings, it makes you itch, but that's just the start. It's draining. Eichi is visible after just a couple steps into the apartment, held up limp by his ankles and tangled up so thoroughly in this parasitic plant that it looks straight out of a dirty manga. His shirt is dropped from gravity, and vines have wound around his bare stomach and his hips, around his pants too, his legs, all the way to those caught angles. His arms had originally been hanging enough where he could reach and stretch uselessly, but now even they were caught in vines and flowers.
And further down, in the hallway closer to Midorima, there's Eichi's phone.
The most alarming part is probably his completely white eyes, but. You know. Spooky season.
Anyway, white eyes don't mean he can't see, so he also gets a stunning view of Midorima whenever he manages to stumble into this jungle madness, and all he can do is give a long stare... Like, literally, he can't move, but also— that's... cute? He's a cute wizard? What the heck??]
[ Midorima's eyes dart around the room, seeing one of the flowers. He doesn't have allergies, but Eichi's also not an idiot so he reaches to his cloak and unties the ribbon on the hood part, then scrunches it up so it's covering his mouth and nose.
It looks incredibly silly now, since only his eyes are visible through the hood. but it'll help him not breathe it in at least. He has no idea what the white eyes mean, but they're alarming enough that Midorima is convinced he needs to get Eichi out of there now. He takes his staff and starts smacking down any vines in his way to try to get to him. ]
[The plant can't scream, obviously, but it almost seems like it would be fitting in how it reels back from the smacks from that staff. Vines shouldn't be able to move like this, but they pulse and shift, backing off where Midorima swats but creeping in where he's not. One even tries to hook around his ankle and get a good grab of it.
With Midorima here now, Eichi puts what energy he does have left to work, stretching himself up, bending slightly, but this is like a full on pull up with his ankles here.]
Gh— It... disguised itself as a moonblessed spirit, and I thought—
[It's like he can't move, and his eyes drift closed because of it.]
[His eyes have opened just enough to stare after Midorima. The kitchen is so much further away, and if this thing grows much more, it's going to break out of his room and into others.]
The bottom drawer, my side...
[Sure enough, there is a knife in there. Along with... a very decorated exchange diary, and some feminine lingerie, but desperate times call for desperate drawers to be opened. It's not just a knife, but a switchblade. The plant isn't wasting any time, either, still trying to creep its way closer to Midorima. The ones holding Eichi pull him further back, and he grunts in his annoyance, but he can't move to fight it.]
[ So Eichi is a serial killer. Got it. Aren't switchblades illegal in Japan? He supposes they're not in Japan and people certainly have much more dangerous weapons that they openly carry. In fact, there are many times when Midorima himself hasn't felt safe because people think it's acceptable to carry around lethal weapons. He'll recognize that later, right now his initial reaction when he picks up the switchblade is ]
Why do you have something like this next to your bed!?
[ He!! Has slept next to this before!!
But he is moving back over toward Eichi as fast as possible. Hands first. He needs to free his hands so he can hold onto Midorima so he doesn't fall when he cuts the rest.. ]
[The plant is so angry. Plants can be angry? It's such a ridiculous concept, but Eichi is feeling it now, as the vines grip tighter as if to retaliate. One of his hands is cut free, though, and he swats the cut vine away from him. His eyes dart where they can, from this upside down angle, watching the rest of them move. Ugh, he'll tell him the knife story later.]
Behind you, as well! Ah, actually, can you step back just for a second?
[That will do just fine. Eichi pushes past the exhaustion and the paralysis in various parts of his body to reach and grasp onto the handle of the blade. In that same motion, once the blade is in his hand and out of Midorima's, he sends electricity from the rest of his body into the plant grasping onto him. It's enough to make the parts latching onto Eichi twitch and shrink back in what can only be described as pain (from a plant?), before he's leaning up to cut both of his ankles free.
It means he topples down, but surprisingly, he's able to tuck himself in a way where it works, stabbing the knife into the thicker vine holding his other wrist and cutting there.
The plant is so large that even if Eichi is by the "body" of it, the vines are massive and all over the place, and many of them are coming at Midorima. His back, his side, his front. Flowers, too, shedding pollen everywhere... At least Midorima was warned about that.
Eichi cuts the last vine so that he's free, but the pollen is too much. His fingers can't even hold onto the blade anymore, after that burst, so he's left curled up on his side in front of the mess of vines, both ones he cut and ones new, unable to do anything but watch Midorima fight off the vines from here. He feels so useless... It's just going to grab him again like this, too, right?
But it's exposed a bit more. A few more good whacks or even a stab might do the trick to finish it off.]
[ Midorima wishes that he could've caught Eichi, to make sure he wasn't injured in the fall, but with the way these vines are coming at them and Midorima's sheer lack of experience in anything resembling fighting, he's just doing his best to keep more of them from coming. Eichi is going to have to be able to handle at least some part of this.
Even through the fabric of his cloak, some of the pollen is still getting to him, but he's doing his best. Midorima is nothing if not capable of working through extreme exhaustion. He's pushed himself so far past his own limits before that it would be embarrassing if something like this could tire him out, even with the chroma drain. But after a moment, he hears the thump of Eichi collapsing a second time, past the initial drop, and he turns around. His eyes widen, then he turns around to give a more swooping wack to a few of the vines before moving over to him.
Extinguishing the plant should've been first priority. Eichi could be treated later, but there was also the possibility that he couldn't. He didn't know how the pollen would react with Eichi's condition. Maybe waiting for too much longer would be too much. Maybe it was already too late. He hits a few more of the vines around Eichi with the stick, then leans down to pick him up with both arms. He can't much defend either of them like this, so he's going to have to rely on his sheer strength of body to pull through anything grabbing the two of them. He's not as strong as Murasakibara, but he's certainly not weak. Though Eichi may not have come and watched him play seriously, it's something he would likely feel now as his muscles tense completely, straining against the remaining vines that wrap around his ankles and arms and stepping forward despite them. There's a sweat dripping from his forehead as he slowly makes his way forward.
There aren't enough left to stop Midorima, thankfully. If he'd tried this when he'd first entered, they'd both be goners. One of the ones on his ankles gives up and instead gets the brilliant idea to go after Eichi's switch blade. Without an opposable thumb to properly wield it, the livid plant is simply wildly flinging a switch blade their way, and nearly goes for Eichi's face. With Eichi's top half being supported by his right arm, he can't risk dropping that one. He could end up with brain damage if he falls head first. So down his legs go, because up Midorima's left hand goes. It's not his first instinct. It's his livelihood. His basketball depends on his fingers. His back-up choice of becoming a surgeon depends on his fingers. His piano depends on his fingers. But despite Eichi's life already having a short expiration date, right now it's more important. Of course it is, just like he would run to Kuroko's side to defend him against thugs despite not having an ounce of fighting experience. He has no intention of losing Eichi.
Thankfully, a quick turn and step back as he does means the vine only connects with the back of his hand as it covers Eichi's head. the tape over his middle and ring fingers is torn, and there's blood. it's a large scrape of the surface, and it will take time to heal, but it's not something that's going to cause permanent damage. He stomps on the other vine at his ankle to break free into a run for the last few feet to the door, slamming it shut behind them once they're out. ]
[He can't move... He can't move no matter how hard he tries, right now. Small motions, like his still-white eyes following the vines coming at him, or his fingers twitching as he tries, and fails, to lift his arm and help. Then there's the vine waving his knife around, and try as he might, he can't turn his face away or duck his head. His eyes squeeze shut for fear of the knife coming at him, but instead... his feet are dropped, and...
His eyes shoot open to the side of torn tape and blood, and he sucks in a breath.]
Midorima-kun—!
[His fingers... His fingers that meant so much to him. He's aware of what that means instantly, and his stomach twists already into guilty knots. This is his fault, he's useless, he shouldn't have called for him, they're all phrases that repeat, but he pushes them aside to focus on what's happening now. Midorima's strength gets them out of the room, and even if that doesn't solve the knife-wielding plant growing rapidly in his apartment, it does give them a chance to breathe.
He still can't move, or shouldn't be able to, but Eichi strains his own hand finally past the poison of the plant, trying to catch Midorima's wrist. His eyes are still white, so the emotion is carried by the furrow of his brows and the curl of his fingers.]
Your fingers...
[Like, he's also mostly paralyzed himself, but he knows the Chroma pulsing through him from touch alone is already working to help with that.]
[ Before he can even properly respond, he has to breathe. Exerting that much energy with his mouth covered, unable to breathe in air properly because a Halloween cloak is not the same as a proper mask, he's extremely out of breath by the time that they get out. He moves to set Eichi down, leaning him against the wall, but he himself ends up sliding down with his back against it too. He pulls the cloak away from his mouth and takes in a deep breath of fresh air.
He doesn't want to look at his hand. It hurts. He never hurts it, so he doesn't know how badly it would need to hurt to cause severe damage. How delicate his balance is. It didn't touch his nails-- it's the back of his fingers, from the middle of the back of his hand to the first knuckle. Eichi's catches it first, before he looks at it. He furrows his brows for a moment, not looking at either the blonde or his hand before looking at Eichi, then his hand. ]
It doesn't look deep.
[ He hopes. He should go to the hospital just in case. He can't risk it. ]
[Eichi says this so dully, clearly more focused on the cut on Midorima's fingers. His breathing is a little labored, and now it seems that he's beginning to run a fever... It had been difficult to tell in the room itself, and something he wasn't familiar with since he'd never cut any of the vines in the past, but chopping them released a sticky white sap that was poisonous.
Well, not deadly, thankfully. But Eichi can feel that it's doing something, and his fingers drop away from Midorima's wrist in a shock at the realization.]
You should clean it immediately, shouldn't you? The room next door, on my side, should be open for you to use the sink without issue. [He barely even registers the you're okay from moments ago, so focused in on this, even if he's dizzy.]
...It seems that all I can manage is to cause trouble like this. Did it seem as though it was going to wilt away from how much it lost? [Maybe it will... plant bleed out.]
[ Midorima takes a few more seconds, not really explaining himself for a moment before he moves to get up. Then to get Eichi up. They're not going back in there. The thing could crawl up through the pipes or the vents to get to the next room, and he didn't know enough about it to know exactly how much damage it needed to take. He wasn't a fighter. They could call an exterminator later. ]
[First, Eichi opens his mouth to argue... But then he closes it again, unable to selfishly request that they don't go when Midorima includes himself like that. Even if it's definitely over the top to go to a hospital for his scratch there, he'd rather put his mind at peace... And he feels too guilty about it to refuse him.
So that means going to his least favorite place, too.]
This sap seems to be something terrible as well, so be careful. [A pause, as he breathes, flushed face resting against Midorima without much choice.]
[ In his defense, he's never been scratched with a knife before. He got scratched by a cat once and now he hates all cats. He's so particular about his nails he will stop in the middle of a conversation to fix them if he thinks they're off. His hand requires extreme care. He needs to go to the hospital emotionally if not physically. ]
Can you walk?
[ Midorima can, but if he has to carry Eichi he's probably going to hurt his hand to do so. At least on pick up. For now he's trying not to address the issue at hand (literally) and just focus on getting them there. That's easier than panicking, though his eyes keep glancing back to his hand subsconsciously, so it's not unnoticeable that he can't stop worrying about it. ]
[It's so apparent. Eichi doesn't want to put that hand at even more risk just because he's paralyzed, and so even if he's fairly certain what the answer is—]
Let me try.
[He shifts, or tries to, his weight leaning one way but his arms can't move much at all, and his legs won't, either. He looks so troubled, trying this, but he keeps struggling against it, gasping out when he can't will a limb to do what he wants it to. Damn it...!!]
Midorima-kun... I think you should head over on your own. I've dealt with these plants before, so time will wear it off, if not chroma, but your hand...
[ Period, end of sentence. He hurt his hand for him, he's not leaving him only a wall away from the thing that did it. He thinks for a moment, then stands up. ]
Not for long anyway. I'll be back in five minutes, possibly less.
[ Eichi is going to owe him a lot of chroma for this. Before the blonde can argue, Midorima's off running, and will be back in about 4 minutes coming up the elevator with what appears to be a red wagon. ]
[ Hmm.. He takes off the cloak he's wearing, pulling it over his head. His shirt pulls up for a brief moment of unnecessary abs exposure, then falls back down once the cloak is off. Beneath it, he just has an tank undershirt and pants, since he didn't want to overheat in the Halloween costume. ]
Here.
[ He throws it onto Eichi's head. While he's finding his way through, Midorima kneels down next to him so he can lean on his right shoulder to get up. At least he won't have to crawl. ]
[The cloak is put on, so now he looks like a cloaked baby in a wagon, but more anonymous! It's all he needed, and the chroma was enough to get him in here and now he just hopes Midorima can get his fingers looked at without any issues.
He's silent for a little longer, probably all the way until they're down the elevator and on the streets.]
Thank you. For coming to help, as well as going through all of this effort. I can't stress this enough.
[ He's not saying you're welcome or anything.. that would acknowledge that he went through all of this effort for Eichi. Which he did but still.. it's much easier to just tell him to buy him dinner at some point. ]
Once we're both better.
[ Not healthy. He knows Eichi's never going to be healthy, but once they're both improved is fine. He pulls Eichi slowly so that he doesn't risk falling out, even if Midorima knows he could go faster. ]
Re: text ; spooky event

[ Midorima takes a few more seconds, not really explaining himself for a moment before he moves to get up. Then to get Eichi up. They're not going back in there. The thing could crawl up through the pipes or the vents to get to the next room, and he didn't know enough about it to know exactly how much damage it needed to take. He wasn't a fighter. They could call an exterminator later. ]
We're going to the hospital. Both of us.

So that means going to his least favorite place, too.]
This sap seems to be something terrible as well, so be careful. [A pause, as he breathes, flushed face resting against Midorima without much choice.]

[But. There's not much choice that he has, is there. It's better than hurting Midorima's hand...]
At the very least, could you cover my face with something? If my fans see me like this, it would be horrible. They'd worry.

Here.
[ He throws it onto Eichi's head. While he's finding his way through, Midorima kneels down next to him so he can lean on his right shoulder to get up. At least he won't have to crawl. ]

He's silent for a little longer, probably all the way until they're down the elevator and on the streets.]
Thank you. For coming to help, as well as going through all of this effort. I can't stress this enough.
no subject
[ He's not saying you're welcome or anything.. that would acknowledge that he went through all of this effort for Eichi. Which he did but still.. it's much easier to just tell him to buy him dinner at some point. ]
Once we're both better.
[ Not healthy. He knows Eichi's never going to be healthy, but once they're both improved is fine. He pulls Eichi slowly so that he doesn't risk falling out, even if Midorima knows he could go faster. ]
