[Maybe he shouldn't feel thrilled about hearing that, but it's exciting. Not embarrassing at all. Interesting... Still, he's stopped from crawling into the bed and left blinking in a daze, but he takes the shirt and glances to it.]
Ah... They made sure the pollen was gone completely in the hospital, though, you know. [That's clearly not the issue here, though!! So fine. He changes, and once he's done, he's... in Midorima's shirt. It's so large, it's practically a dress on Eichi, and he's glancing behind at how it falls whenever Midorima finishes, tugging at the hem of it.
Actually. This is very fine. He loves the concept of boyfriend shirts and jackets and he learned this very quickly. Looking back over to Midorima, he laughs briefly.]
[ Remember when he stayed over at Eichi's and he just got down on the ground and started stretching?
Bingo, like clockwork, it's happening right now while they talk the second that he's got his pajamas on. He does glance up at Eichi but.. god, they're both so tired, even if he likes what he sees he doesn't think he could do anything about it. Maybe he'll just hold onto Eichi all night so that Eichi can't get away. ]
[So there. And look, just deal with it in the morning when they're both rested, it's flawless.
Mm, but it shows that Eichi is tired by how he doesn't try to pester Midorima during his stretches. He crawls into bed, instead, slipping his legs beneath the covers and immediately trying to cover himself as much as he can.]
It's Chroma that I need the most, you know, so I wonder if it's possible for you to sleep a little closer to me for the whole night.
[He turns under the covers now, wiggling into a comfortable position on his side as he blinks at the wall. This is fine. Ah, and of course he enjoys being held, but after everything from today, he wants to ask if Midorima is really going to hold him the whole time, or if he's just going to let go once he's asleep, or once he seems healthy enough.
It feels like a childish thing to ask, so he stays quiet instead, curling his fingers in front of his face.]
[ Once he finishes his stretches, he goes to the closet and gets out an additional blanket. He plugs it into the wall first and then tosses it over Eichi. He's going to keep him warm all night long, he's determined.
Once the bed is made with Eichi in it, he crawls into the bed behind him and wraps his arms around the blonde. ]
[It's warm, like this, and Eichi puts one of his arms over Midorima's, breathing out like he's more relaxed. The plant... the spirit it had been trying to be... he can forget both of them, like this. Forget everything, just sleep. Rest. Regain energy.
It doesn't take long for him to fall asleep. It's warm like this, and the Chroma has steadied his breathing.
At least until much later, when his grip on Midorima's arm tightens enough to be noticeable, sucking in a breath in his sleep. His expression is all wrinkled, and he tries to say something, but it comes out as an inaudible whisper, but it's clear that he's having some sort of a bad dream.]
[ Midorima is determined to hold Eichi through this, and decides that it's fine to do so since he will go to sleep normally later. Right now, this is a nap, which is abnormal anyway, so he reasons he perhaps doesn't need to lay on his back and follow exact sleep protocol. He stretched, he took his glasses off with his right hand.. he can lay on his side this one time if it means holding Eichi and restoring his chroma.
It takes Midorima a little longer than normal to fall asleep, if only because it's not his normal position, but he'll hold Eichi until his arm starts to feel uncomfortable and he wakes up. He can't see what's going on. It's dark now-- they've slept for some time, beyond what should've been a nap. Midorima feels energized from the chroma they'd created as they slept, but he can also tell something is wrong. He can hear something is wrong, even if he can't hear his expression. ]
Tenshouin.
[ He says it once, quietly, a whisper. If nothing changes, he says a little louder. ]
[The first calling of his name doesn't get his attention. He's in the darkness again, like always. That stage... he's all alone. Turning this way and that, it's like all light has been swallowed, and he's cold, and he can see his comrades now in the distance, Tsumugi the only one looking back his way—]
Wait...
[The word is muttered weakly, and his dream self stretches out a hand. In reality, he squeezes Midorima's arm more. Tsumugi turns away from him, and they all fade. There's nothing after that. Emptiness, wasted space, like he's been swallowed whole.
And then, the sensation of falling, his heart lurching up into his throat just as he hears his name. He jolts a little, gasping, his heart racing too much, sweat making his bangs stick to his forehead.
But he realizes where he is, after a few panicked breaths, and stops squeezing Midorima's arm so much.]
Ah... [That nightmare again. It's always the same thing. He doesn't try to turn and face him. He stays frozen where he is, still a little out of it, emotions still caught in the dream.]
[ Midorima is huge, strong. He's played against opponents that have literally landed him on his ass multiple times in a game. He's worked himself until he wanted to pass out because he still wasn't good enough. He doesn't need to be Iris to have a tolerance for pain. Eichi squeezing him doesn't hurt. Maybe if he'd used his nails or something, but as it is, he can handle that.
Midorima presses a kiss to his ear to try to calm him. He's groggy from being woken up, so his voice is quiet and still, but he doesn't start yelling or anything. ]
[The kiss is nice, but Eichi still feels too afraid to turn around in his arms to face him like he'd like to. Part of it is that illogical side of his brain telling him Midorima will disappear just like everyone else, but the rest is just concern over showing this weakness, over letting himself open up and move closer like that.]
I'm fine.
[It's just who he is, to say that and write it off. But his chest tightens and he worries next that this is what pushes people away even more. Literal pushing, holding things back, keeping them to himself and then wondering why he ends up alone. He breathes out slowly.]
That is... I have this one often. I wonder if I'll ever be able to shake these memories of the past. Well, but that incident earlier must have made it more likely.
[ Midorima wouldn't have pushed if Eichi hadn't opened up unless it started to get excessive. He himself wasn't the most open person, after all, even if he was putting effort into trying to be better about it himself. He still finds some relief when Eichi shares with him though-- it's unexpected, but it does make him feel like Eichi thinks he can be relied upon. After today, he would hope as much, but it's still good to know. The content of the share is less positive. ]
If anything would dredge up a nightmare, trauma makes the most sense. Are you okay?
[ Tell him what you need and he'll get or do it, even if he won't offer. ]
[Is he okay... It's such a simple question, but he gets stuck on it. On hearing it from someone, so directly. On what the answer might be. By all means, he should be, right? He's always been safe, always the one causing damage for those around him, crawling over anything he needed to in order to rise to the top. But, well, his feelings... the weight of old sins was so heavy it felt like he couldn't breathe, sometimes. And existential dread is always something that manages to come up, with health like his, but in a setting like this it's worse.
Eichi breathes, instead of answering, his legs shifting just slightly, knees coming that inch or two further up, towards himself. His fingers tense over Midorima's arm, but it's not really a squeeze so much as a check to see if Midorima is there, and if Eichi himself is really awake.]
It feels in poor taste to be the one upset, right now. That plant might have been some sort of karma. Everything else before that, as well...
As far as I can tell, murderers and criminals receive a clean slate here.
[ He believes in a good many things, but he also knows that the world isn't so fortunate that all those who commit grave sins are punished for them. Eichi has guilt- he knows this. He knows why, and while he doesn't lean on it or hold him accountable, it's not his place.
Midorima squeezes back, keeping his voice quiet. He scolds him, but his tone isn't as harsh as the words that leave his mouth, taking some of the edge off of it. ]
Don't be so arrogant as to think that you're special enough for the apparent multiverse to punish you specifically. It's okay to be upset.
[It's true, when he puts it like that... Eichi hums, then wiggles to turn in Midorima's arms at last. If he can, anyway, he's going to shove his face into Midorima's chest and wrap his arms around him like that, tangling their legs together.]
I wonder about that... But I'll accept your comfort, all the same.
[ Midorima loosens his hold so that Eichi can turn easily. He doesn't tighten it back again once Eichi is turned, but he does press a small kiss to the tip of Eichi's nose. ]
Regardless, you have my permission to feel that way without guilt.
[He simply laughs under his breath at both of those statements, breathing slower, deeper. It's comfortable, and the warmth makes it easier to forget about the nightmare. So slowly, he does, and drifts back to sleep.]
