[ Once it's off, Midorima returns and stands closer to Kise this time. Enough that he can give Merlin a little reassuring head scratch and probably get some chroma from being shoulder-to-shoulder with Kise. It's not a lot, but it's closer than Midorima normally gets without someone else instigating it.
As the firework explodes above them, he pushes his glasses up so that he can see it a little better. ]
Happy Tanabata, Kise.
[ And happy birthday to Midorima, but he's not gonna say that to Kise. ]
[Midorima gets a happy smile when he rushes over and steps close to him. Merlin, still a bit scared, is relieved Midorima's still around and tries to lick his hand. Sorry, Midorima, the pups just love to lick your hand.
He nudges Midorima's shoulder lightly, playfully when the firework goes off and he grins.]
And happy birthday to Midorimacchi!
[No need to worry, Kise will say it, he didn't forget.]
[ Midorima looks a little surprpised as he's nudged and looks over at Kise. It's nowhere near as rough as they are with him at Shutoku but it's still surprising.
To be fair, Midorima's always behaved more responsibly around the other Generation of Miracles members. His behavior around Shutoku is like a rebellion against being a responsible Vice Captain anymore and just acting like a spoiled child, so there's definitely a reason he gets smacked sometimes.
This seems more playful so he doesn't get upset about it and instead just lightly bumps Kise back. ]
[Kise doesn't mind 'either' versions of Midorima because he considers both of them to be true. One person can't always be serious and responsible for everything without having some leeway to cool off and relax. In fact, Kise's the one that needs to reign himself in a little. He's working on it!
Whether he gets smacked in Shutoku or no, Kise has no idea, but he definitively looks happier there. And that's pretty much all that matters.
He's tempted to lean his head against Midorima's shoulder but, well, public. So he just opts to stand there with a wide smile to watch the sunset with him.]
[ Kise may still struggle with his temptations, but it should be noted that Midorima does notice improvements in respecting his boundaries in public, which is why Midorima is trying to be a little more accommodating and affectionate in ways that he does feel comfortable, like shoulder bumps and hand holding. They're small, but Midorima really is putting in effort to try to meet him halfway. He certainly isn't bumping shoulders with anyone else.
Midorima is fine with just standing here quietly even after the firework has faded and enjoying the company of Kise and their dogs, honestly. ]
