[ But that's something she would never admit to Ruby's face. Or to anyone else, really. In fact, when she says that, it comes out as a grumble than an actual statement.

[ In other words, anyone in his life is in his life because he wants them there. But that's way too embarrassing to say. He seems to remember she's biking back there too and slows back down. His legs are way longer, he doesn't want to give her a hard time. ]

Off the court, anyway. I don't trust anyone more than I do him on the court.

[ Akashi is... equally trusted, but that's complicated, whatever. ]

[ It's too bad Midorima doesn't clarify, because what he says is totally confusing and leaves Weiss looking at her hands. Is she supposed to be here?? Does he even want her around? She's so confused. ]

How did the two of you become partners?

[ She'll just focus on the person rather than the bigger picture. Besides, this is the most MIdorima has talked without prompting.

I destroyed him in middle school and made him quit basketball, but he couldn't leave it at that and vowed to destroy me in high school, only for us to end up on the same team. I ignored him, but he kept staying after when I would practice after the rest of the team left. Eventually he changed that determination to force me to acknowledge him rather than to beat me.

[ It's probably an odd story to someone who didn't live through it-- who didn't realize how Midorima used to be. ]

I wasn't always as open to accepting others into my life as I am now, so that took longer than it should have.

He slows down as they approach a place called Burger Brosis. ]

[ Midorima, that's gay. ]

[ Wow Weiss, going hard on that. ]

There were a lot of circumstances that opened me up to my team. [ Okay, no, don't deny it it's a serious conversation. He clears his throat slightly as he breaks the bike right in front of the racks and waits for Weiss to get off first, since she's in back. ] A boy named Kuroko opened me up to trusting others; Takao was the person who taught me how to again.

[schmisse]

Oh. I know him! He's that guy with the blue hair, right? The... other one.

[ Not Aomine!

She gets down and fixes her skirt, all the while looking at Midorima. ]

He knew me, for some reason.

[ Midorima thinks for a moment. It doesn't sound unfamiliar, even if the reasoning should be. ]

Akashi mentioned that he and I used to live in another world. Perhaps it's the same one. I don't remember that either.

Another person mentioned that, too.

[ Mayuzumi, who is somehow more forgettable because he doesn't have blue hair. ]

Oh- Is Kuroko still here? I haven't seen him since that day he arrived.

I don't believe so. He's easy to lose track of, but he would've made his presence known by now if he were still here.

[ Kuroko is unnoticeable, but he does make himself noticed intentionally before too long. ]

Oh.

[ That's unfortunate. Not that she knew him well or anything... but she wanted to know more about why he knew her. ]

I hope he's okay.

He's tougher than he looks.

I wouldn't know, but I'll take your word for it.

[ There aren't that much people, so they're able to get a table easily. And she's 100% going to eat a burger with a knife and a fork... why is this like deja vu with our characters. ]

Is someone coming over or do we have to order at the counter?

[ He gestures to the counter. There's a bit of a line, he was waiting for it to die down. ]

The counter, but they'll bring it to the table.

[schmisse]

[ They're handed laminated menus while they wait, and the server tells them to order at the counter. Weiss got her answer from Midorima, but the waiter's timing is pretty perfect, too.

She goes quiet as she goes through the menu. She's particularly craving for a burger with blue cheese, bacon, and mushrooms... so hopefully this restaurant has it! ]

I wonder what's in their secret sauce.

[ The burger place is kind of a 'build your own burger' sort of place. You can pick what kind of meat base you want (hamburger, turkey, chicken, salmon, and a few other native Primsatican options), then add on whatever ingredients you want. Midorima decides on a burger with an egg, lettuce, tomato, and caramelized onion. ]

I suspect it's a secret. Ask if you can taste it before you put it on your burger.

[ Weiss is plenty set with her order, but she asks for secret sauce on her burger, too. She's curious!! ]

Midorima, what do you call the bread at the top of the burger?

[ This is gonna be a bad joke please ignore it if you know what's good for you..................... also totally heard the joke from Yang and she wants to tell it too??? ]

[ He's just going to answer it straight with information. He doesn't have any idea she's trying to tell a joke. ]

The top is the crown, the bottom is the heel.

No, it's called the upper crust.

[ Wait. Wait wait— ]

... I forgot. The question was supposed to be "what's the most sophisticated part of a burger". [ She folds her arms and lets out a groan. ] Nevermind.

[ He just stays quiet for a few seconds and waits for her to peter out, then doubles-down on his response. ]

It really is called the crown, Schnee. Don't confuse the location with the correct naming.

I was trying to tell a joke!

[ It failed, really really badly, but an attempt was made nonetheless. ]

[ Either way, they're at the start of the line now and are able to place their order. Midorima puts his in first and pays, then takes a little tracker for the table and moves out of the way to wait for Weiss to put her order in. They both get cups for fountain drinks too. ]

[schmisse]

[ Weiss may have said she wanted 10 burgers and that's how they ended up here, but she orders just one for now. And a side of mashed potatoes with cheese sauce. She's really hungry, okay... it doesn't help her Chroma reserves and it's still slowly being drained, but at least she's not starving!

She joins him once she's ordered, looking around the restaurant and making idle observations. ]

There's even a playground...

[ She's. Never been to a restaurant with a playground before!! ]

[ Midorima never knows how much he's going to eat during Cordis; he normally doesn't eat much, so he starts with one thing and just gets back in line over and over until he's satisfied. Sometimes the hunger doesn't affect him as badly as it does other times, so it's better to be safe than fall into a situation like he did during the last cycle: a fridge full of uneaten tacos from a local food truck. It was a sad day and a huge waste of money. ]

It's a family type restaurant.

I've never been to one before.

[ But there are probably restaurants in Remnant which have playgrounds, too. If Weiss wanted to eat, she'd just have the kitchen staff in the manor to cook for her. Ruby's never dragged her to such a place, either. ]
