[Midorima really is adorable, isn't he. "I suppose?" Eichi doesn't say anything about that line, but he sure is giving him a knowing look as he reaches to take those bowls from him. Let him serve it!
Because he's only giving himself a very tiny serving. He's been taste testing red bean soup for over 24 hours. Midorima gets the nice serving.]
[ Midorima doesn't know that. But Eichi is about to find out that the reason that he only eats a little bit at regular meals because he happily will pop open a can of red bean soup in between them.
Fresh and homemade is definitely a step up. He sits down at the table as soon as he's handed over the bowls and spoons. ]
You made this yourself?
[ Once served, he tries not to look too eager but has a spoon in the soup and then in his mouth after a delay of three seconds that are a little too obviously him intentionally waiting to taste it. ]
[It was His Project. Even if Keito helped with his fingie burns. He unwraps his scarf a little as he sits down, more focused on watching Midorima than taking his own taste right now. Though Eichi isn't saying how hard he worked on this, his efforts will show. He followed the recipe perfectly, and after enough practice to get the art of it down as well, he's done it well! Not like any perfect chef, but. Good.]
[ Once Midorima tastes it, he feels a warmth in his chest. From the soup, yes, but no one's ever made him properly homemade food and brought it just for him for seemingly no reason. Tsumugi makes him food regularly, but largely because he can't cook and that was part of their agreement-- it's the reason Midorima does a larger share of the cleaning, because he doesn't think that Tsumugi should be the only one putting in effort for their home. But Eichi did this just because he wanted Midorima to have it, presumably. At least he hasn't asked for anything yet, and Midorima hopes he doesn't.
He doesn't really know how to deal with this. He pushes up his glasses. His brain is malfunctioning a little. After a few seconds of silence he takes another bite, still staying quiet, then looks up at Eichi and takes a deep breath with a huff toward the end. ]
[Honestly, he wonders how he's learned to deal with this tsundere. "It's hard to go wrong?" That's all? Does he have any idea how many times he almost burned down the apartments from leaving the stove too high? His burnt fingers?? How one time it boiled over so badly that he couldn't get to it to stop it without making even more mess?
But, as much as he wants to be recognized for his efforts, or to hear that he did a good job, he doesn't want to make this about that. He knows what's meant by Midorima's actions, and that's amusing enough.
He takes his own little spoonful, keeping his lips around it for a moment too long as he contemplates Midorima's little huff. It's cute.]
[ Midorima isn't good at handling things like gratitude or people worrying about him. There have been some occasions when Takao recognized him flat-out freezing up because he didn't know how to deal with it and intentionally gave him an excuse for the behavior. As much as Midorima gets prickly when he is the forward one, he flat out doesn't know what to do when someone does something like this for him. He's ornery and stubborn and selfish and it makes it very difficult for people to get close to him, or it used to. Getting better at being forward with others and being less assholish has allowed for people to care for him in different ways, and he legitimately doesn't know what to do when he's this happy about it.
He looks at Eichi as he says you're welcome, as if Midorima had said thank you, and he gives him a small nod, looking for and taking another bite. He's gonna eat the whole bowl quietly and then hold it out for seconds if Eichi lets him!!! ]
Fufu... Is it so surprising that I made it for you that you're stunned into silence?
[He has to speak, once he's handed the bowl for seconds. He slides his own bowl over for Midorima to finish (it's a small amount anyway) as he stands to get him refills for his original.]
I can't finish that, so I assume you won't want it to go to waste? [He's so done with this, but. It's nice to see it enjoyed.] It's yours, so you can simply return the pot once you've finished with it all.
I didn't know you could cook. You don't seem the type.
[ Neither is Midorima, so it's definitely not a judgmental statement. He does notice that Eichi hasn't taken those cute mittens off yet even though he's inside. He accepts the bowl and finishes Eichi's, then gets to work on the second bowl. A few bites in though, he asks: ]
Do you want me to turn up the heat?
[ His mittens are still on, so he must still be cold. ]
I’ve tried a few times, but you’re right that I don’t really cook. I normally have servants who do so for me, after all.
[ The next question gets a confused blink before he understands and smiles smoothly, passing Midorima the refilled bowl. His cute little white knit mittens, admire them. ]
[ Oh, is he worried he’s going to leave? That’s so cute. He was trying to avoid embarrassing himself more than anything else, and so Eichi finally gives in with a laugh, moving to take his gloves off. ]
In any case... No, unless you plan to kick me out? [ Joking. He smoothly tucks his gloves away, still trying to be subtle about his hands, but they’re burnt enough to be noticeable to anyone with a sharp eye. He messed up a few times, okay... ]
[ Midorima is bad at noticing romance-y things, but he's very good at noticing the physical. He wasn't a vice captain once for nothing. He holds his hands out for Eichi's. ]
[He hesitates for a few long seconds before he brings up his hands, stretching forward to place them in Midorima's.]
You noticed?
[He's embarrassed, but as long as he's not being teased it's fine. There are some blisters, definitely redness. His hands are otherwise perfect, since he so rarely does physical labor.]
[ Midorima examines his hands carefully. His own bandage just came off today and, though there's a fine line there, looks like it's healing just fine. Eichi didn't need to hurt himself to please him, but the fact that he went to such effort.. well, he's going to get spoiled a little bit, in a strange Midorima-y way. ]
[ No scolding...? That’s unusual for Eichi and so he blinks a few times and then closes his eyes with a hum. He has no idea where this is going, but that’s half the fun?? ]
You’re demanding things without explanation again, you know.
[He's so surprised that of course he opens his eyes, blinking in surprise at the soft way Midorima is kissing his hands. The glare he gets in return earns a laugh, and he shifts his hands to grab more properly at Midorima's instead, leaning closer.]
Don't look at me like that.
[Playfully, though, as he pulls Midorima's hand closer to himself, or at least tries to— the one that had gotten stitches before. He wants to kiss it, and so he goes for that, if he's not stopped, a soft and careful thing.]
It was worth it in the end, wasn't it? I was able to try something new, and make you happy, as well.
It was simply to improve your chroma for healing, don't make anything out of it.
[ ...But he doesn't stop him from giving him a kiss as well, this time looking away, his ears turning just a little pink before he clears his throat. ]
Anyway, that's not the end of the hand care process. We can have more soup later, it'll be fine hot or cold.
[ He loves it any temperature, after all. ]
Come.
[ He's taking him to the bathroom. If Eichi assumes this is to generate more chroma, he's wrong. Midorima is going for his home nail care set, some aloe gel, and so on. ]
[Is he getting a manicure? Standing up from his chair, he smiles as he follows along. Honestly, at this point, he doesn't expect anything with Midorima. His tsundere is so intense, he never knows what's going to happen next.]
My hands are being treated today. ♪ Fufu, but you know, I was trying to treat you?
[ Yes. A Midorima special. It'll be the most perfect nails he's ever had, and that's not meant to disparage whoever normally cares for them. Midorima is obsessive about his nails. That's what Eichi is going to get. ]
They're a mess, if I don't teach you how to care for them you'll keep mistreating them.
[ once his tools and creams are out, he goes back to drag a second chair into the bathroom. (He does already have a bath seat to sit on himself.) ]
This was one incident, you know, but I won't refuse special treatment like this.
[So, he sits, glancing down at his hands. They are a mess, right now... Which is a problem for his career too. But it was a special occasion... That is, he felt like doing something nice. Now that he's learned, next time he can avoid it, right? Right?]
