[ Akashi gets up to get the shogi board, then. It's upstairs where his other stuff are, but it doesn't take long for him to retrieve it and start setting up.
A little familiarity in a strange world isn't so bad. He needs something like this. ]
[ Midorima is glad for it too. it may not be something they've done in his recent memory, but it is familiar. It's been a couple of months since anything's been familiar, so he'll be happy to focus on something that once was. He finishes up the dishes quickly and sits down on the side of the board opposite Akashi. ]
[ Akashi plays the same way he does. His movements are more calculated at first, as if he already has a specific play in mind and Midorima's just playing according to how Akashi wants him to. Though later on, he'll slow down and have his thoughts branch out so he can start seeing things from a broader point of view.
He looks pretty tired, though. Akashi's pretty good at keeping a front majority of the time, but the way his forehead creases is a sign of weariness and worry. It's not about Midorima or anything, nor the game! It's just that he's not really sure what to do in this world. He's already thinking of that and is still thinking of that despite playing a game. ]
[ While Midorima may not be as good at this game as AKashi, he's improved since they last played in middle school. But more than that, it's obvious that he's paying attention to the player just as much as he is the game. ]
You look troubled.
[ And Midorima can already tell that he's on the defensive rather than the offensive, so it can't be the game. ]
[ He at least wants to see this through. And beyond being tired, playing a good game of shogi is good for his... well, health and sanity and it's comforting and fun. It helps. It helps him be okay. ]
[ Yes, all the time. Akashi is the definition of laying his dick out on the table to make sure that people know he's the best at things. Things like winning every prize at school festivals or pointing out that he doesn't even have to try to beat Midorima quickly definitely aren't shows of humility. ]
An unnecessary one.
[ Midorima can't say a way out of this corner so he sighs and gestures to show concession. ]
I don't want you to think that I don't want you around.
[ The other Akashi, at least, the past other Akashi, would have laughed at such a remark. He's... He's gotten better, and Midorima doesn't have to worry about the other Akashi anymore. They're friends and Akashi will do whatever it takes to make sure they remain friends. ]
I'm not so sensitive as to think your arrival in another world wouldn't exhaust you and you're trying to get rid of me. Take care of yourself before you worry about other people.
[ He doesn't know he's all.. one person now. Akashi's definitely someone who he needs to watch over as far as he's concerned.
Even so, he does get up. ]
Close your eyes.
[ Akashi's tired, so he's not going to drag him to the grocery store as he'd intended, but he is going to give him enough chroma to order dinner at least. He shouldn't eat just bread. ]
[ What an odd thing to say. He can't very well walk Midorima outside if his eyes are closed. . . but Midorima also wouldn't pull a prank on him, so he does as he's told.
He can get up once he finds out what it is Midorima wants to do. ]
[ Listen, there are only so many ways that Midorima is comfortable giving chroma. He can't imagine Akashi agreeing to one of his decided acceptable methods.
So once he cooperates, Midorima puts his hand on his head and gently pats him. ]
Buy yourself something to eat besides bread tonight.

[ Miu was involved as well, but Midorima doesn't need to know that. He doesn't need to know about his ex??? ]

[ He repeats it because
that's super gayhe's surprised and confused that he would do something so openly. As if on cue he follows up with: ]We both must have been starved for intelligent competition.

[ So it's very special! And yes, it is super gay. ]

[ Akashi answers is quickly enough. It's only partly a front. ]
I'm rather tired, that's all. I don't mean to make it seem like I don't want you here.
[ He has his shit together, but he's still just arrived from being dumped on the moon. That experience was honestly very terrifying. ]

[ Akashi, you don't have to deal with him... He came over to make sure you were okay, not to be entertained. ]

It's stressful, but it gets easier.

[ He's dealt with so much stress already... Let Akashi Rest. ]
Don't think I'm trying to end the game quickly, Midorima.
[ Because the move he makes corners the shooting guard. It's not personal. ]

Don't be a braggart, Akashi.

[ Does Akashi ever show off? No. That's never happened in his lifetime. He's a very humble young man. ]
